Ringgold County Sheriff's Office Application

We are currently accepting applications for the following position(s):

Deputy Assessor or Clerk
The Ringgold County Assessor is now accepting applications for a full time Deputy Assessor or Clerk. 

Skills Necessary:
  • Real estate and GIS experience preferred but not required
  • Basic knowledge of construction practices helpful but not required
  • Excellent verbal, written & telephone communication skills
  • Outstanding math skills
  • Basic knowledge of computers and database applications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk on varying terrain
Duties Include (but not limited to):
  • Take required classes & tests to become a Deputy Assessor
  • List, measure & price properties according to industry standards and processes
  • Update GIS system as needed for changes
  • Process property transfers per recorded documents
  • Learn tasks & other duties within the Assessor’s Office

Deputy Sheriff
The Ringgold County Sherriff’s Office is accepting applications for Deputy Sheriff. This is a full-time position and will consist of day and night shift hours, holidays and weekends. Starting pay is $24.60 an hour for a non-certified applicant. Starting pay may be increased for certified and experienced Law Enforcement Officers. We offer a complete benefit package including paid medical, dental and vision insurance, paid life insurance, paid holidays and retirement (IPERS).

All applicants must:

  1. Be at least 21 years of age upon date of hire.
  2. Hold a valid Iowa driver’s license.
  3. Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  4. Be able to read and write the English language.
  5. Pass a background check.
  6. Pass a psychological screening.
  7. Be willing to be examined by a physician and meet the physical requirements necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of a law officer.
  8. Pass a physical capacity profile test.
  9. Pass drug screen.
  10. Be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Ringgold County or intend to become a resident upon being employed.
  11. Not be addicted to drugs or alcohol.
  12. Be of good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation including a fingerprint search conducted of local, state and national fingerprint files and have not been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
  13. Not be opposed to use of force to fulfill duties.
  14. Have uncorrected vision of no less than 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/20, and color vision consistent with the Occupational demands of law enforcement.
  15. Have normal hearing in each ear.
  16. Undergo cognitive (Basic Skills) testing.
  17. All non-certified applicants must pass the POST exam (70% or greater in each sub category) and the ILEA physical agility as conducted by the Ringgold County Civil Service commission to be considered for an interview. If you are ILEA certified and currently working as an officer, the lateral transfer rules apply, no physical agility testing required. Transfer of POST and MMPI scores will be accepted if completed within the last year.
  18. Firearms proficiency.

Duties will include, but not limited to, traffic enforcement, patrol duties, accident investigations, transporting inmates and serving civil papers.

Civil Service Examination will be held October 9th, 2021 @ 9:00 A.M.  at the Ringgold County Courthouse (Courtroom)  

All applicants must meet the minimum hiring standards set by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Sheriff's Office Dispatcher/Jailer
All applicants must meet the minimum hiring standards. This is a full-time position and will consist of day and night shift hours, holidays and weekends. Starting pay for this position is $16.80 an hour non-certified applicant. With increases up to $19.80 after successful completion of training and orientation/probation period. We offer a complete benefit package including paid medical, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, life insurance and retirement plan (IPERS). Uniform will be provided.

All applicants must:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age upon date of hire.
  2. Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Be able to read and write the English language.
  4. Pass a background check.
  5. Pas a pre-employment physical.
  6. Pass a psychological screening.
  7. Must have working knowledge of the Windows Operating System.
  8. Pass drug screen.

Duties will include, but not limited to, receiving information requiring law enforcement, fire and/or medical response and transferring the information via radio and/or phone to proper emergency or non-emergency services. A complete job description may be found here
